I have always been interested in math, computer science, economics, and political science. I took advanced courses in math and science at school, but that was not enough for me. I would and still always bother my dad to see what other studies and work I can do outside school. My dad is a computer data geek for a profession, but passionate in finance and banking on his own, as he is a CFA charter holder. He initially told me I could study for CFAs at home. He tried to register me for CFA exam, but couldn't because CFA no longer permits registration without a college degree.
He started looking for other venues for me to follow outside school to challenge me. He got me registered for SOA exams,
and I have since completed the Financial Mathematics, Investment & Financial Markets, and Probability exams. During the summer of 2019, I looked intensively for internship work, applying to a couple of places hoping something would popup. I got rejected from all the applications, as they repeatedly wouldn't entertain applicants of my age. Finally, my dad connected me to the company Nousot, where I had an amazing summer learning the analysis of data science with real life applications. It was a fun and productive summer during which I got introduced to a field I hadn't known about prior to the opportunity but found great interest in by the end. A couple months passed, and I got to thinking about what I would do for the upcoming summer in 2020. I started applying again. this time with many letters sent by mail. This included the CEO's of companies like Goldman Sachs, famous and successful individuals like Warren Buffet and Elon Musk, along with many smaller companies from the Chicago land. I also sent over 200 emails to professors from Northwestern, University of Chicago, and Carnegie Mellon University for internship opportunities over the summer, and again didn't get a single yes. And this got me thinking, I have a relatively strong background with three SOA exams attempted and all passed, an internship done last summer, and yet all I hear is no. This isn't just about me either. I have so many friends with different talents that can be put to real use, but the opportunity to do so is very limited. Instead, they will go and work in local restaurants or grocery stores on an hourly basis during the summer. If I can come out with a platform to connect corporations or institutes with the talented youth I see around me, it would be beneficial for both parties. And that is where AnansiPro came to life.
I hope to raise enough awareness about this inherent flaw in our society and ultimately get projects rolling soon for these talented individuals.
